A new cargo route from China to Afghanistan will pass through the territories of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, reports Xinhua News Agency.

The first cargo train left the city of Chongqing towards the city of Hairaton in Afghanistan, marking the start of a railway route connecting this major city in southwestern China with Afghanistan.

The train is transporting 55 containers of communication equipment from the Chinese telecommunications giant ZTE. It will pass through the Khorgos border crossing in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and reach its destination in Hairaton via Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The entire journey is expected to take between 12 and 15 days.

Earlier, the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan reported that in 2024, cargo transportation between China and Kazakhstan set a new record. A total of over 32 million tons of goods were transported by rail. The volume of transit shipments through Kazakhstan reached a historical peak, increasing by 19% to 15.3 million tons. The main goods include iron and non-ferrous ores, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and grain cargoes.
