DUSHANBE - Tajikistan's authorities are strengthening their commitment to developing its own pharmaceutical industry amid the country's continued high dependence on imported medications. At a government meeting on May 28, the Pharmaceutical Industry Development Program for 2026–2030 was presented, aimed at expanding local production of drugs and medical products, Khovar reports.

According to the document, the country plans to create more favorable conditions for the implementation of modern technologies, scientific research, and the attraction of foreign investment in the pharmaceutical sector. Particular attention will be paid to the production of import-substituting drugs, as well as the development of systems for the cultivation, collection, and processing of medicinal plants.

In recent years, Tajikistan has faced growing demand for medications and dependence on foreign supplies, making drug security a priority for state policy. President Emamoli Rahmon emphasized the need to actively utilize domestic resources and support entrepreneurs to develop domestic drug production and strengthen the country's healthcare system.
