Tajikistan, Iran, and Afghanistan have agreed to establish a trilateral road transport corridor for commercial freight. The protocol was signed following talks held on July 14-15 in Mashhad, Iran, Asiaplus.tj reported.
The first test run involving trucks from all three countries is planned for the next month. The document was signed by representatives of the transport departments of Tajikistan, Iran, and Afghanistan. The new route aims to simplify cargo transit, reduce delivery times, and strengthen trade and economic cooperation between the countries.
The creation of the new road corridor is of strategic importance for Tajikistan, which seeks to diversify its transport routes and expand access to international markets via Iran. For Dushanbe, this project opens up additional access to Persian Gulf ports, reducing dependence on traditional transit routes. Despite ongoing security risks in Afghanistan, developing transport cooperation has the potential to stimulate regional trade and strengthen the connectivity of Central and South Asia, consistent with the long-term strategy of regional countries to develop international transport corridors.
