Turkmenistan advocates for a comprehensive, environmentally oriented approach to cooperation in the Caspian Sea. This was stated by Myrat Atajanov, Director of the Caspian Sea Institute, at a regional environmental summit in Astana, Turkmenportal.com reports.
According to him, the country is promoting initiatives to preserve biodiversity, rationally use resources, and prevent emergencies. Ashgabat also provides a platform for negotiations on maritime safety, scientific research, and anti-poaching.
Atajanov noted that Turkmenistan previously hosted key meetings of the Caspian states, including the first Caspian Summit and Economic Forum, which laid the foundations for cooperation in the region.
He also announced plans to hold the second Caspian Environmental Forum in the Avaza tourist zone before the end of the year, where pressing environmental issues, including sea level reduction, will be discussed.
The UN emphasizes the importance of coordinating efforts among countries in the region. The summit in Astana is taking place from April 22–24 with the participation of representatives of states and international organizations.
