A meeting of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO Affairs was held in Ashgabat. It was attended by supervising deputy prime ministers, the commission's executive secretary, as well as heads and representatives of relevant agencies, Orient.tm reports.

Opening the meeting, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov emphasized the special attention given by the country's leadership to Turkmenistan's cooperation with UNESCO. The meeting reviewed the commission's activities in 2024 and outlined work directions for 2025.

Among the significant events of the past year was the 10th meeting of the National Commissions for UNESCO Affairs of TURKSOY member states, held in Ashgabat in May. In 2024, dozens of meetings and consultations were conducted both online and offline with UNESCO representatives and its regional branches, during which prospects for cooperation in science, education, culture, and ecology were discussed. Important documents and decisions regarding interaction with UNESCO were adopted.

In the near future, systematic work is planned within the framework of Turkmenistan's proposals to include national values in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

During the meeting, topics such as strengthening Turkmenistan’s role in UNESCO divisions, expanding international scientific cooperation, and organizing joint events in connection with the declaration of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust were also discussed.
