During a visit to China, an Uzbek delegation held talks with Sichuan Zhongzhi Shenghe Performance Co., Ltd. regarding the supply of environmentally friendly public transport for the country's largest region, Karakalpakstan, Eurasuatoday.ru reports.
The parties agreed to implement a project worth approximately $10 million, which will include the delivery of 54 electric buses, as well as charging stations and related equipment. Delivery is scheduled for completion by August 1, 2026.
The project aims to modernize the bus fleet, reduce air pollution, and transition to "green" transport. Regional authorities hope this will also reduce fuel costs and improve the environmental situation amid the ongoing crisis in the Aral Sea region.
It is also noted that Uzbekistan is strengthening cooperation with China in the areas of transport and environmental infrastructure, and electric buses are becoming an important element of urban transport reform in the country.
